Making a Silhouette: Multiple Ways

This tutorial will show you how to make a silhouette of something with different techniques. I know many of you may know how to make a silhouette of something, but how would you like to know multiple ways to do them? Not ALL the techniques will be listed, of course (there are probably many many different ways), but I will show you all the ways I know that are fairly hassle-free.
Before & After
Selection Method - Using selection to create your silhouette
Hue/Saturation Method - Using the Hue/Saturation window to create your silhouette
Level Method - Using the Levels window to create your silhouette

For all methods, please have an open canvas, the picture you would like to make a silhouette of, and basic knowledge of Photoshop.

Selection Method

This method requires that the character/thing you want to make a silhouette of must be extracted from the background. This means that none of the background may be present.

After extracting the image, or finding an extracted image to use, press the Ctrl key and click (while still pressing the Ctrl key) on the thumbnail present in the layers window.
Click the layer thumbnail to select
After you have done this, you will notice that your image is selected. After doing this, create a new layer (Layer -> New -> Layer).
Layer / New / Layer
Pick the Paint Bucket Tool [picture].

Click the eye on the original image layer so only the selection shows. Then, select the empty layer. Using the paint bucket tool, click inside the selection.

After doing this, you can press "Ctrl + D" to deselect; and there you have it: a silhouette.

Hue/Saturation Method

This method also requires that the character/thing you want to make a silhouette is extracted from the background.

After having your image extracted, or picking an already extracted image, right click the layer and click "Duplicate Layer..." Doing this will duplicate the layer.

Next, click the eye of the original layer to hide it.

After hiding the original layer, make sure you have the duplicate layer selected. Click "Ctrl + U" (or select Image -> Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation...).
Image / Adjustments / Hue/Saturation...
Doing this will open up the Hue/Saturation window which should look like, or similar to, this.

After bringing this window up, take the slider labeled "Lightness:" and slide it all the way to the left.

Click "OK" and there you have it; your silhouette.

Level Method

The Level Method is somewhat similar to the Hue/Saturation Method. Have your already extracted image. Duplicate the layer (right click, "Duplicate Layer..."). Click the eye on the original layer to hide it. Then, make sure your duplicated layer is active.

Press "Ctrl + L" (or select Image -> Adjustments -> Levels...). The levels window should pop up.
Image / Adjustments / Levels
Near the bottom of the window, should be a section labeled "Output Levels:". Pick the white slider located on the right (right above the 255) and drag it all the way to the left. As you are doing this, you should notice your image getting darker and darker.
Slide the white Outputs slider all the way to the left
Click "OK" and you're done!

Keep in mind...

I provide these things for free and I feel inclined to mention (as all do) to please credit the works you use. Even a small little tiny note will do (as long as it's legible.. seriously. lol.). You may refer to the Terms of Usage for.. well. terms of usage. XD And once again, thanks for dropping by.~
